DAY ONE: SEA KAYAKING, CAPE BYRON LIGHTHOUSE, COMMUNITY MARKETS & MAIN BEACH

MORNING: GUIDED SEA KAYAKING TOUR
Start your morning the ultimate Byron Bay way, heading out on this highly-rated family friendly Byron Bay Sea Kayaking tour. For just under 3 hours glide through the glistening Bay waters, tracing the rugged coastline and its secret ocean coves.

It is not uncommon to be joined by a pod of curious Bottlenose dolphins, as well as sea turtles or even Humpback Whales between the months of July to October!

One of the best things you can do on your 3 days in Byron Bay itinerary is a guided sea kayaking with dolphins!

EARLY AFTERNOON: BROWSE THE BYRON BAY COMMUNITY MARKETS (OPTIONAL)
On the first Sunday of every month, Byron Bay hosts the Community Markets right by the Main Beach, usually between 8am to 2pm.

The market is bustling with every kind of stall imaginable, from unique clothing, quirky handmade gifts, homeware, fresh food produce and even pop-up libraries and massage tents!

If visiting on the first Sunday of the month, head to the eclectic market stalls of the Community Markets in Byron Bay, one of the best things to do on your 3 days in Byron Bay itinerary! Find the Community markets just off the Main beach. Photograph taken by Jordie.

AFTERNOON: CAPE BYRON LIGHTHOUSE TRAIL
This afternoon, explore even more of Byron Bay on the 2 to 3 hour return Cape Byron Coastal trail, starting from Byron’s Main Beach and leading you up to the iconic Cape Byron Lighthouse.

We loved this hike along the coastline as it was a super interesting and ever-changing trail, consisting of seafront boardwalks, countless beaches, panoramic ocean views from the clifftops and small areas of quiet woodland.

As you reach the Cape Byron Lighthouse, take in the epic 360 views before heading back towards Main Beach.

Fun Fact: On route, you will pass the “Most Easterly Point of the Australian Mainland“! Be sure to get a photograph next to the sign!

Fun Fact: As you walk along the Cape Byron walking trail, you will be elevated with great views of the ocean. Keep your eyes peeled on the water as it is every common to see dolphins pods and even whales from up here!

SPOTTED WILDLIFE!

Australian Brush Turkey
Spotted along the Cape Byron Walking Trail. They’re found from East Australia to as far as North Queensland. Distinguishable by their black feathers and bright red / yellow head, they can live to up to 25 years. As a hatchling, they spend their first two days of their life scrambling up through a metre of dirt to reach the surface!

SPOTTED WILDLIFE!

Bottlenose Dolphin Pod
Spotted this huge dolphin pod whilst walking the Cape Byron trail. They can be found around the coast of Australia, in warm tropical waters. They can grow from 3-4 metres in length, and each dolphin has its own individual whistle and dorsal fin shape. Fun fact: They can swim up to 260 metres below the ocean!

EVENING: SUNSET AT MAIN BEACH
Returning from the trail, it’s time to rest your aching feet by winding down at Byron Bay’s Main Beach to watch a beautiful sunset. Sit back and relax on the grassy verge, where you’ll most likely be serenaded with acoustic music from local buskers!

Want to stretch your legs? Head down onto the golden sands of the beach here and stroll up towards The Pass Lookout, located at the very end of the beach.

AFTERNOON: SHOP BYRON BAY’S HOMEWARE BOUTIQUES
After you’ve headed back to your accommodation or had a nice lunch, it’s time to hit the shops.

If unique bohemian homeware is your thing, make sure you’ve made time for shopping during your 3 days in Byron Bay itinerary – and make space in your backpack!

Byron’s small but mighty town centre has some epic independent clothing, surfing and home boutique stores all with Australia’s iconic Bohemian flare, which I personally love! Our favourite Byron Bay stores were MARR-KET and Nikau.

Funny story, I brought a rug from MARR-KET and ended up having to carry it with me all up Australia’s East Coast and to New Zealand before we headed ghome!

Top Tip: Byron Bay’s town centre is also full of quirky eateries and fames itself for its buzzing bars, music and nightlife! Take time to explore, relax and get lost in the town.

Today we suggest heading out of Byron Bay town on this half day 5* “Badge of Excellence” small group ‘Hinterlands & Glowworms Experience’ to the mesmerising Gondwana Rainforest, set in the surrounding Byron Bay Hinterlands.

On this epic guided tour, firstly uncover the natural beauty of this UNESCO heritage listed site, including one of the area’s most highest and jaw-dropping waterfalls. On completing your hike, fuel up on a delicious vegan / vegetarian dinner set in glorious natural surroundings.

As darkness descends, witness the magical phenomena of thousands of glowworms illuminating the forests. During the Springtime you can also see fireflies (seasonal).

VISITING BYRON BAY:
“KNOW BEFORE YOU GO” FAQ’S

WHY IS BYRON BAY SO POPULAR?
IS IT WORTH VISITING BYRON BAY? πŸ₯‡

Byron Bay is so popular to visit for so many reasons. The quirky personality of this little town has an everlasting impact on anyone who visits.

Byron Bay is the epicentre of peace and love, entrancing all visitors with its refreshing laid back vibes, glorious beaches and surfing and bohemian shopping boutiques.

The unique destination of Byron Bay is a must visit on anyone visiting Australia or is in need of a relaxing long weekend away.

WHAT IS THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO VISIT BYRON BAY?

The best time of year to visit Byron Bay is all dependant on what you believe is most important.

Hottest time: For those wanting (almost) guaranteed hot weather, Australia’s peak Summer months December – February officially mark the warmest months to visit Byron Bay, however this comes with a more expensive price tag on accommodation and tours.

Cheapest time: The Winter months of June – August is the cheapest time to visit Byron Bay, though this obviously means lower temperatures.

We believe to get the best of both worlds (increasing your chances of having pleasant weather without the expensive price tag) we would suggest the two shoulder seasons of late Spring (September – November) or early Autumn (March-April) are the best months to visit Byron Bay!

HOW MANY DAYS DO YOU NEED FOR BYRON BAY?

We believe to get the best out of your Byron Bay itinerary, you need a few days to really soak up everything Byron Bay centre has to offer, whilst also reserving an extra day to explore it’s naturally beautiful Hinterlands!

Therefore for the best Byron Bay itinerary, we would say 3 days in Byron Bay is the perfect amount of time to visit if you are on a tight schedule!
