WONDERING HOW TO SPEND 1 DAY IN TROGIR?

You’ve come to the right place! We’ve just come back from an incredible trip around Croatia, including spending a full day and overnight stay in the idyllic harbour town of Trogir.

The main draw is Trogir’s Old Town, a historical settlement tucked away on its own tiny, completely car-free island.

Set along a picturesque Adriatic harbour, the whole place feels wonderfully quaint, authentic and full of character.

Despite its small size, there’s plenty to see and do here, whether you’re visiting for a full day or just an afternoon.

We personally loved staying overnight to experience the atmosphere after sunset too, and highly recommend doing the same if you can!

1 DAY IN TROGIR ITINERARY: BEST THINGS TO DO ON A DAY TRIP

GET LOST DOWN OLD TOWN’S ALLEYS

Part of the Trogir’s allure is getting wonderfully lost down all its narrow, maze-like cobbled alleyways.

Look all around (and up!) for charming old features and quirky detailing. I was living my Mamma Mia dreams!!

FORTRESSES KAMERLENGO & LOOKOUT

Fortress Kamerlengo is a compact 15th-century castle tucked at the edge of Trogir’s harbour, originally built by the Venetians as a naval fortress to help protect the town.

It’s just €5 (cash or card) to enter and explore, and while the fortress itself is fairly small, the real highlight is climbing to the top for sweeping views across Trogir’s rooftops, harbour and shimmering Adriatic coastline.

After walking the perimeter of the castle walls, head up to the main lookout for sweeping views across the harbour!

💡 The last set of stone steps up to the lookout are very tight and steep! Take your time getting up there.

LOOP BACK VIA FOOTBALL FIELD & RIVERSIDE WALK

Let’s take a different route back towards the centre! Exiting Fortress Kamerlengo, turn right (away from the harbour) and loop back around a part of the island’s perimeter.

Passing Trogir’s football pitch tucked directly behind the fortress, you’ll find a lovely riverside walkway, plus a seriously cool steel bridge featuring a large netted section suspended above the water that you can actually walk / lie on!

WALK THE PERIMETER ROUND TO PERIVOJ ŽUDIKA PARK & GARDEN

If you fancy stretching your legs even further, continue walking from the east side of Trogir all the way round to the west towards Perivoj Žudika park and gardens.

It’s fairly small and a little rugged, but we really loved this peaceful little green space. Quiet, full of character and with lovely views looking back out across the water.

In the far corner of the park is a random set of metal “swimming pool” steps leading straight into the sea (around here). I sat there for ages just dipping my feet in the ocean!!

ST LAWRENCE’S CATHEDRAL BELL TOWER

You think the view from Fortress Kamerlengo was good? You haven’t seen anything yet!

Just a 3 minute walk across the road from Perivoj Žudika gardens is Saint Lawrence’s Cathedral.

Climb up to the bell tower to see my all-time FAVE panoramic view of Trogir, set amongst its orange-roofed buildings, vibrantly red-roofed Clock Tower and the shimmering turquoise Adriatic Sea in the distance:

Tickets are €5 each and can be bought on the day from the small museum across the square (the building to the left of the red-roofed clock tower, covered in greenery on the roof). Cash and card are both accepted.

GRAB LUNCH AT DEBOTO

Right next to St Lawrence’s Cathedral is a quaint little square full of dining chairs and tables, serving multiple little eateries.

As food and drinks along the harbour promenade are noticeably more expensive, we highly recommend grabbing lunch just here.

We really liked Deboto – it had lovely food for almost half the price of the waterfront restaurants!!

BUT SAVE A DRINK FOR THE HARBOUR PROMENADE!

Head to the harbour promenade and settle in at one of the many bars for a waterside drink. It’s the perfect place to unwind, people-watch and ogle at some huge luxury yachts.

TROGIR IS AN EASY 8-MINUTE DRIVE FROM SPLIT AIRPORT

One of the best things about visiting Trogir is just how easy it is to get to. It’s only an 8-minute direct drive from Split Airport.

Funny enough, it’s actually quicker and easier to reach than Split itself, and you definitely don’t need a tour to visit Trogir.

Instead of rushing straight into a busy city, ease yourself into your Croatia trip by heading straight to Trogir from the airport and spending a day (or ideally a night) exploring its charming Old Town.

Another reason why we’d really recommend staying overnight if you can. It’s much nicer being able to drop your bags off first, then explore properly without lugging your suitcase around its cobbled streets.

SPLIT AIRPORT IS SURROUNDED BY UBER
There is literally an abundance of UBER drivers around Split Airport, Split and Trogir. Book an immediate UBER as soon as you land (the drive is super direct), or hop in a waiting taxi to get there.

FINAL THOUGHTS: 1 DAY IN TROGIR CROATIA

And there you have it! A perfect 1 day in Trogir itinerary, packed with all the best things to do in this wonderfully charming little Croatian town.

Despite its compact size, Trogir really surprised us with just how much character it has. From medieval alleyways and panoramic bell tower views, to waterfront sunsets and relaxing Adriatic sea views, it’s the perfect place to slow down and soak up the atmosphere.

Whether you visit for a full day or stay overnight like we did, Trogir is such a lovely addition to any Croatia itinerary and honestly one of the prettiest places we personally visited on our trip.
