This post is our honest review of the first mentioned tour, the Nærøyfjord to Flåm cruise and Stegastein viewpoint tour from Bergen,which, out of the two, is by far the better option.

This is the exact tour we booked and would 100% recommend it to anyone. Granted, on paper it’s a long day, but the scenery here is on a completely different scale to the Mostraumen fjord and so worth it.

WHAT THIS 11 HOUR TOUR ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE (AND WHY IT WORKS)

PICK-UP FROM BERGEN CITY CENTRE

The tour starts from a central pick-up point just outside the Tourist Information Centre by the Fish Market, opposite the Scandic Torget Bergen hotel around here.

Our minibus left at 8am sharp, so we’d recommend arriving 10 to 15 minutes early.

Once everyone’s checked in, you’ll hop into a comfortable (and pretty stylish!) Mercedes minivan with your small group and guide, ready to kick off the day.

💡 Final details are usually sent the day before, so keep an eye on your booking confirmation.

STOP 1: TVINDEFOSSEN WATERFALL

Your first stop is Tvindefossen waterfall, a powerful cascade dropping down a 150-metre cliff face.

It’s right by the roadside, so you can take it in straight from the minibus or walk a little closer if you want a better view.

When we visited in November, it was completely frozen solid, which made it feel even more surreal.

💡 In winter, you won’t be able to get too close for safety reasons, but it’s still a really cool stop.

STOP 2: STEGASTEIN VIEWPOINT

Next up is Stegastein viewpoint, and honestly, this was one of our favourite stops of the entire tour!!

Set 650 metres above the Nærøyfjord, this platform stretches 30 metres out from the mountainside, giving you completely uninterrupted views over the fjord below.

It’s one of those places that just makes you stop and stare for a minute. It really is incredible, and catch it on a “blue sky day”? You’re in for a treat.

The drive up is part of one of Norway’s official National Scenic Routes, so the journey itself is just as impressive. That being said, if you’re not great with heights… maybe don’t look out the window too much on the way up 😅

STOP 3: GUDVANGEN VILLAGE (WHERE THE FJORD CRUISE BEGINS!)

You’ll then drive along the scenic E16 towards Gudvangen, a small village sitting right at the entrance to the UNESCO-listed Nærøyfjord. This is where your fjord cruise begins!

Before boarding, you’ll have a short stop to grab food, use the toilets or have a quick wander around.

There’s a cosy café and gift shop here, all set in a really nice wooden lodge-style complex.

You’ll board a modern catamaran and spend around 2 hours cruising through the UNESCO-listed Nærøyfjord, surrounded by towering cliffs and cascading waterfalls.

It honestly feels like something straight out of Jurassic Park.

You can stay inside on the lower deck where it’s warm and cosy, with large panoramic windows, or head up to the open-air decks for uninterrupted views.

LOOK OUT FOR UNDREDAL! 🌈🏘️

Shortly after setting off, keep an eye out for Undredal, a tiny village tucked along the fjord.

It’s one of the most beautiful and authentically Norwegian places we saw, with colourful wooden houses set against a dramatic mountain backdrop. Just stunning!

We actually ended up stopping here due to a winter route change, and it turned out to be a real highlight getting to walk through it.

STOP 4: FLÅM VILLAGE

The cruise finishes in the small village of Flåm, where you’ll have a short stop before heading back.

There’s a cluster of wooden buildings right by the dock with toilets, a café, gift shop and even a pub, so it’s a good chance to grab something to eat or warm up.

You’ll also spot the famous Flåm Railway here, along with its small Railway museum (free to enter).

After that, it’s a direct drive back to Bergen. We ended up having a little snooze on the way back 😅

LET’S TALK ABOUT THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM… THE PRICE.

This is one of the more expensive tours you can do from Bergen, so it’s completely fair to question whether it’s actually worth it.

HOW MUCH IS THIS TOUR?

Prices start from around £232 GBP / $310 USD per person.

That includes all transport, a guide, the fjord cruise itself and multiple scenic stops throughout the day.

IS IT HONESTLY WORTH IT?

In our opinion, yes, 100%. We’ve done both this and the shorter Mostraumen fjord cruise, and this is on a completely different scale.

You’re covering a huge distance, seeing some of Norway’s most dramatic landscapes and getting a proper “wow” fjord experience in just one day.

It’s definitely a long day, but for us, it was one of the standout experiences of the entire Bergen trip!

USEFUL THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU BOOK

HOW LONG IS THE TOUR?

The tour lasts around 11 hours, starting at 8am and returning in the early evening.

It’s definitely a full day, but it’s paced really well with regular stops and the fjord cruise, so tbh it never felt too much.

HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE ON THE TOUR?

This tour has a maximum of 20 people, which keeps it feeling small, relaxed and far from a “mass tourism” experience.

HOW MUCH DRIVING IS THERE?

There is a fair amount of driving, as you’re covering a lot of ground in one day.

That said, it’s broken up well with regular stops every 1.5 to 2 hours to stretch your legs, grab food or use the toilets.

The longest stretch is the drive back from Flåm to Bergen, but by that point we were so tired we ended up snoozing most of the way back 😅

WHAT’S NOT INCLUDED?

Food and drinks aren’t included, but there are plenty of opportunities to buy snacks or meals throughout the day.

Gudvangen and Flåm are your best stops if you’re after something more substantial than just a quick sandwich.

CAN YOU DO THIS TOUR IN WINTER?

Yes, this tour runs all year round, including winter.

That said, the itinerary may need to be slightly adjusted depending on weather conditions. For example, fjord routes or stop locations can occasionally change if there’s ice or extreme weather.

We actually did this tour in late November, and while a couple of things were adapted, it didn’t take away from the experience at all.

In fact, we ended up leaving from Undredal village instead of Gudvangen due to ice, turning out to be a bit of a bonus!!

The tour company does a great job of adjusting the day to make sure you still see as much as possible, and in some cases (like our stop in Undredal), it actually made the experience even more special.

SO, IS THIS THE BEST FJORD TOUR FROM BERGEN?

In short, and in our opinion, absolutely!

If you’re looking for the most impressive fjord experience from Bergen, this Nærøyfjord Cruise, Flåm And Stegastein Viewpoint tour is the one we’d recommend every time.

Yes, it’s on the more expensive side, and yes, it’s a long day. But for us, the scenery, the variety of stops and the overall experience made it completely worth it!

You cover a huge distance in just one day and see some of the most dramatic landscapes Norway has to offer. All in one day. Can’t ask for much more than that.
