Here’s more info –

While this property is “new” on Booking.com, it certainly isn’t! In fact, Panorama Glass Lodge® is a worldwide trademarked design, with its first two luxury lodges originating in Iceland back in 2017.

First is this West-side beachfront location in Akranes. (FYI – The second South Iceland option is listed further below).

These state-of-the-art glass lodges combine the feeling / experience of being out in raw, untouched nature with all the luxury and comforts you could need.

Check availability for Panorama Glass Lodge® West

Inside you’ll find a modern private bathroom (WC & shower), a fully equipped kitchenette (hob, fridge with small freezer, microwave, kettle and coffee machine), plus a standout bedroom set beneath a fully transparent glass ceiling, wrapped in floor-to-ceiling windows.

Around the lodge: This West site of Panorama Glass Lodge® benefits from a beachfront location, with direct access to the beach and epic sea views! Free guest parking and WiFi too.

There are only 4 lodges on-site here to maximise privacy and exclusivity between lodges, rather than feeling like a resort.

Getting there: This west location of Panorama Glass Lodge® is a 1 hour 26 minute drive from Keflavik Airport (KEF), see route. Driving is essential, there’s no public transport connection or airport shuttle option.

Here’s more info –

Same trademarked luxury glass lodge design, completely different feel! The 4 premium lodges at the South Iceland site (a 22 minute / 26km drive away from the closest town of Hella) this time are set inland – surrounded by raw, rugged Icelandic green countryside and distant mountains.

Still donning all the luxurious comforts you could need for a premium stay, the lodges are set under the darkest skies with minimal light pollution – ideal for northern lights spotting.

Check availability for Panorama Glass Lodge® South

Inside your lodge: A premium, generously sized lodge set in Iceland’s open countryside, surrounded by highland and river views, with your own private outdoor hot tub and hammock net on the balcony.

Inside, there’s a sleek private bathroom (WC and shower), a well-equipped kitchenette (hob, fridge with small freezer, microwave, kettle and coffee machine), and a show-stopping bedroom beneath a fully transparent glass roof, framed by full-height windows for epic uninterrupted landscape views.

Around the lodge: Again, there’s just 4 lodges on-site here to maximise privacy and exclusivity between lodges. Each lodge has a private outdoor “hotpot” next to it with epic views of volanco Hekla, the Icelandic highlands and river.

Getting there: This southerly location of Panorama Glass Lodge® is a 2 hour 20 minute drive from Keflavik Airport (KEF), see route. Driving is essential, there’s no public transport connection or airport shuttle option.

There’s not much around and no catering options are available here, so make sure you stock up on all the food / drink that you’ll see for your stay.

The closest town is Hella, directly on South Coast Highway 1, although it doesn’t have the best supermarket option, it’s more of a convenience store.

We highly suggest stopping at the Krónan supermarket in Selfoss (town before Hella). It’s larger, with more choice!

OUR TOP TIPS FOR STAYING IN A GLASS IGLOO (AND COMMON MISTAKES TO AVOID)

If you hadn’t already guessed, we are obsessed with glass igloo hotels, having personally stayed in quite a few now across Finland, Norway and of course, Iceland!!

From our experiences, here’s a few super useful top tips to remember regarding northern lights when staying in a glass igloo (and common mistakes to avoid):

1. If you arrive and it’s cloudy, don’t give up hope! Set an alarm every hour throughout the night

This is our most important glass igloo tip! Even cloudy skies often clear overnight in the very early hours, even if for a little while.

This has happened to us TWICE – once in Iceland at Aurora Igloo and again at LakeLodge Kiehinen in Rovaniemi.

Both times we’ve gone to bed under thick cloud (and rain in Iceland!!). But I stayed optimistic, setting an alarm to go off every hour of the night. And guess what? BOTH times we’ve seen the Aurora when we absolutely weren’t expecting to.

2. Book between late September to late March in Iceland

Glass igloos are available year-round, but the Northern Lights are only visible from late September to late March in Iceland. Booking outside this window means long daylight hours, aka not ideal for aurora viewing.

3. Don’t underestimate light pollution

Even in Iceland, light pollution can affect aurora visibility. Remote locations away from towns and roads generally offer the best conditions, which is why ultra-remote stays often deliver the strongest Northern Lights displays.

5. Don’t expect hotel-style services everywhere

Some glass igloos are fully serviced resorts, while others are self-catered, remote or boutique stays with minimal staff on site. Always check what’s included, especially meals, transport and on-site facilities before booking.

FINAL THOUGHTS: WHICH ICELAND IGLOO HOTEL IS BEST FOR YOU?

Every igloo hotel in Iceland comes with its own vibe, price point and level of luxury – but after comparing them all, here are the standouts depending on what you’re actually looking for:

💎 Best for a once-in-a-lifetime luxury stay
If you want “WOW” factor – book Tiny Glass Lodge. After recently staying here with our toddler in tow, we can personally vouch this luxury glass cabin has serious WOW factor, 360° countryside views and private hot tub.

💑 Best for couples
Depends on what type of couple you are! Either Tiny Glass Lodge again for that luxe experience, or opt for the full 360 igloo experience at Aurora Igloo South!

👨‍👩‍👧 Best for families / small groups
Golden Circle Domes (Lake View) is a well designed and equipped canvas igloo with 2 x double beds, perfect for up to 4 adults!

We hope you have the best time staying in Iceland, get in touch at hello@theflainstravel.com and let us know which one you end up going with! 🤩
