The shining star of Sweden’s igloo hotels is the Peace & Quiet Nature Hotel, found in Jokkmokk (Swedish Lapland).

It has two Aurora Igloos to book – The “Floating Glass Room” along the river and the “Mountain Glass Room”, surrounded by idyllic Finnish countryside.

The coolest thing – and the reason it was awarded the best boutique hotel in Sweden for 2024 – is the “Floating Glass Room”. It isn’t just it’s name – it actually floats!

It’s been converted to also be like a motorised boat. The host, BjΓΆrn, can drive guests out onto the river to have 3 course Sami dinners. Wait – You don’t believe us?! Check this video out!

Both igloos are compact but perfectly designed, always toasty warm, are spoiled by epic scenery and have a lack of sound and light pollution – simply perfect for northern lights viewing.

BjΓΆrn, his family and staff are very friendly and attentive. Every guest is looked after to have a once-in-a-lifetime experience here.

It doesn’t stop there! It is also an outdoor wellness-orientated haven, with plenty of unique activities to try, such as Cryotherapy treatments, a waterfront massage, a Siberian Sauna tent, yoga and meditation on ice and a hot tub to warm up!

The reason it is #1 on our list is because it’s certainly not your usual stay, more a soul-soothing retreat! You will leave feeling awed, replenished and feel the life being breathed back into you.

There is of course the list of must-do Lapland activities to that BjΓΆrn can arrange for you too, such as snowmobiling, Sami reindeers and sledding.

It is worth noting – There is no traditional shower on-site. Extended stays are provided with hot towels and wet wipes. Or there is the natural approach, a dip in the lake during Summer and a tingling cryotherapy sessions in the Winter!

Getting to Peace & Quiet Nature Hotel

Option 1 – The most convenient option
(Good for both self-driving & non-driving guests)

The most convenient airport from the Peace & Quiet Nature Hotel is LuleΓ₯ Airport (LLA), which is a 2 hour 10 minute (176km) drive away, route linked here.

You can fly directly to LuleΓ₯ Airport on a 1 hour 20 minute flight from Stockholm Arlanda International Airport (ARN) with Norwegian Airlines. Flights to/from this airport are much more frequent, and much cheaper, than our Option 2 below.
Check KAYAK for the best flight deals around your dates.

From LuleΓ₯ Airport, the best way to get to Peace & Quiet Nature Reserve is to either drive your own car or hire a rental car from LuleΓ₯ and take advantage of the free on-site parking.

Or, pre-book a public bus service with LΓ€nstrafiken Norrbotten, who provide two daily airport shuttles from LuleΓ₯ Busstation to Jokkmokk town. To get to LuleΓ₯ Busstation from the Airport, you can jump on the Line 104 or Line 4 bus, which only takes 15 to 20 minutes.

Option 2 – The closest option
(Good for self-driving guests only)
The closest airport to the Peace & Quiet Nature Hotel is GΓ€llivare Lapland Airport (GEV), which is a 1 hour 15 minute (100km) drive away, route linked here.

You can easily fly into GΓ€llivare Lapland Airport (GEV) on a direct 2 hour flight from Stockholm Arlanda International Airport (ARN) with Amapola Flyg, a Swedish airline. Flights however are not too frequent, approximately 1 per week.
Check KAYAK for the best flight deals around your dates.

From GΓ€llivare Lapland Airport, the best way to directly get to Peace & Quiet Nature Reserve is to either drive your own car or hire a rental car and park for free on-site. This isn’t a great option if you are not driving, as public transport is very limited from this airport, and a taxi would set you back at least Β£100+!

We had an amazing experience staying at the hut for two nights. We got to see the northern lights on both nights which it was extraordinary. The scenery was spectacular and it was literally peace and quiet … The staff were very helpful and they actually drove us from Jokkmokk to the huts and back with the snowmobile.

There is one last spot in Swedish Lapland – Aurora Mountain Lodge – Sweden’s northernmost lodge in Lannavaara, a tiny riverside village 200km north of the Arctic Circle.

The village has just 80+ residents, with most being reindeer herders. Lapland doesn’t get more authentic than that!

They have a range of room types, including – what we consider to be the closest to igloos here – the ‘Aurora Hideaway’ and ‘Aurora Suites’, both with an element of panoramic windows perfect for northern lights viewing.

The idyllic tundra scenery is also ideal for all sorts of outdoor activities and thrilling experiences, such as snowmobiling, husky tours, Arctic horseback riding, snowshoeing and epic northern lights safari tours.

On-site, there is a free sauna and jacuzzi (additional charge), a cosy communal lounge with open fire plus full board featuring a delicious breakfast, lunch and two course dinners.

Take advantage of free refreshments throughout the day, including coffee, tea, berry juice and still water.

Getting to Aurora Mountain Lodge

The closest airport to Aurora Mountain Lodge is again Kiruna Airport (KRN), which is a 1 hour 30 minute (125km) drive away, route linked here.
Check KAYAK for the best flight deals around your dates.

To avoid a large taxi fare, your best bet is definitely to hire a rental car from Kiruna Airport, and drive yourself straight to Aurora Mountain Lodge, taking advantage of their free on-site parking.

CONCLUSION: GLASS IGLOOS IN SWEDEN

Yes it’s true, Sweden doesn’t necessarily have the most extravagant igloo hotels like that of Finland.

But, these 3 options still give that special glass igloo experience we all crave – to witness the stars or (if we are lucky) the northern lights through a glass roof from the comfort of our bed!

Our absolute top glass igloo in Sweden pick is the Peace & Quiet Nature Hotel, as it’s the whole package. Not just a standalone igloo in the middle of nowhere, but part of a wider wellness offering with unique soul-soothing and thrilling activities to take part in. Note that while it is possible to get to this igloo without a car, it is a few hours away from both of its nearest airports.

A close second is Aurora River Camp Glass Igloos & Cabins, which has the same Aurora Igloo design as the Peace & Quiet Nature Hotel. The benefit of this igloo is its incredibly convenient location, literally a 10 minute drive from Kiruna Airport, which is served daily from Stockholm International.

Aurora Mountain Lodge breaks the mould with its modern ‘Aurora Suites’ and the ‘Aurora Hideaway’ structure, more permanent structures with large panoramic windows. It’s closest airport is also Kiruna, though is much further away and really only accessible by car.

All three are all located far north in Swedish Lapland, making each one a great place to see the northern lights – should the conditions and seasons be right!

We hope you have the most amazing time watching the skies of Sweden, you’ll have to let us know where you stayed!
