13 INCREDIBLE GLASS IGLOO HOTELS IN NORWAY FOR NORTHERN LIGHTS!

If you hadn’t already guessed, we are obsessed with glass igloo hotels, having personally stayed in quite a few now across Norway, Finland and Iceland!!

From our experiences, here’s a few super useful top tips to remember regarding northern lights when staying in a glass igloo (and common mistakes to avoid):

1. If you arrive and it’s cloudy, don’t give up hope! Set an alarm every hour throughout the night

This is our most important glass igloo tip! Even cloudy skies often clear overnight in the very early hours, even if for a little while.

This has happened to us TWICE – once in Iceland at Aurora Igloo and again at LakeLodge Kiehinen in Rovaniemi.

Both times we’ve gone to bed under thick cloud (and rain in Iceland!!). But I stayed optimistic, setting an alarm to go off every hour of the night. And guess what? BOTH times we’ve seen the Aurora when we absolutely weren’t expecting to.

2. Book between late September to late March in Norway

Glass igloos are available year-round, but the Northern Lights are only visible from late September to late March in Norway. Booking outside this window means long daylight hours, aka not ideal for aurora viewing.

3. Booking a glass igloo too far South in Norway

Not all glass igloos in Norway are located above the Arctic Circle. If seeing the Northern Lights is your main goal, focus on the Northern Norway locations we highlight here in this blog (Tromsø, Lyngen, Senja, Finnmark or Vesterålen), where aurora sightings are far more reliable.

We’ve included Lofoten as Northern Lights potential is still “good”, but note it’s prone to more cloudy conditions cause of it’s coastal location.

4. Don’t underestimate light pollution

Even in Northern Norway, light pollution can affect aurora visibility. Remote locations away from towns and roads generally offer the best conditions, which is why ultra-remote stays often deliver the strongest Northern Lights displays.

5. Don’t expect hotel-style services everywhere

Some glass igloos are fully serviced resorts, while others are self-catered, remote or boutique stays with minimal staff on site. Always check what’s included, especially meals, transport and on-site facilities before booking.
